Terms and conditions


By registering for South Indian Model United Nations (hereafter referred to as “SIMUN”), you are deemed to have read and agreed to the following terms and conditions:


The following terminology applies to these Terms and Conditions, Privacy Statement, and any or all Agreements: “Delegates" (members of a delegation or individual delegates), "Faculty Advisors” ("Parent," "Observer"), “You,” and“Your” refers to you, the person registering and accessing this website and accepting the terms and conditions for South Indian Model United Nations. “Ourselves,” “We,” and “Us”, refers to SIMUN. Any use of the above terminology or other words in the singular, plural, capitalization and/or he/she or they, are taken as interchangeable and therefore as referring to same. By registering as a delegate on simunglobal.org and our affiliate sites, you agree to be contacted by simunglobal.org and our affiliates via communication modes including but not limited to email, SMS, MMS, and telephone calls.


ELIGIBILITY

  1. All individuals registered as delegates at SIMUN must be 13 years of age or older. All delegates must be enrolled in high school or have graduated from a high school within one year of the period of the Chapter conference in question.

    1. The staff and Secretariat of SIMUN reserve the right to investigate the eligibility of any delegate and expel without refund, any individual determined to be ineligible for participation as a delegate. Any individual who does not meet the above criteria, who registers in affiliation with a high school that s/he does not attend, or who is otherwise found to be in violation of the SIMUN terms and conditions will be considered ineligible for participation.

    2. Delegations attempting to falsify the eligibility of delegates or otherwise found to be in violation of the SIMUN terms and conditions will be considered ineligible for participation at SIMUN in the year following the infraction(s), pending consultation with the Secretariat.

  2. Teachers, university students, parents, administrators, and other adults 18 years of age or older are eligible to serve as faculty advisors. Any individual who is eligible to participate at SIMUN as a delegate is ineligible to serve as a faculty advisor.

    1. Individuals, though from different schools, may register as a delegation. This delegation should be accompanied by a faculty advisor from one of the participating schools or a legal guardian of one of the individual delegates. All rules that apply to every other delegation attending the conference shall apply to this delegation as well.

CONDUCT

  1. All delegates must dress in Western Business Attire (WBA) while at SIMUN. As a general rule, WBA requires that delegates dress in a suit jacket, slacks or skirt, dress shirt with tie, and dress shoes. National attire is also permitted. If a delegate’s attire is deemed inappropriate by SIMUN staff, the delegate will be asked to leave the session and return with appropriate attire. Clothes that expose excessive bare skin or are otherwise revealing are deemed inappropriate.

  2. All delegates must cooperate with SIMUN for any security procedures that may include, but are not limited to: frisking, baggage checking.

  3. All delegates are expected to remain “in character” while at SIMUN by consistently advocating the interests and representing the policies of the country assigned. To act “in character” also entails displaying respect for the opinions and ideas of fellow delegates, even if these opinions and ideas conflict with a given delegate’s own country’s priorities. Delegates are expected to prepare adequately for active participation in committee sessions.

    1. Delegates who disrupt committee sessions or other conference events may be barred from further participation at SIMUN and/or expelled from the conference without refund at the discretion of the Secretary-General.

    2. Delegates who antagonize hotel guests or otherwise disturb the peace may be barred from further participation at SIMUN and/or expelled from the conference without refund at the discretion of the Secretary-General.

  4. All faculty advisors are responsible for the safety, wellbeing, and conduct of their delegates.

    1. The educational quality of SIMUN is primarily dependent on all delegates’ active and professional participation. Faculty advisors can ensure this by monitoring their delegates’ attendance at committee sessions and helping them understand the skills of diplomacy as practiced at SIMUN.

    2. Faculty advisors may not however, participate in the writing of resolutions or in caucusing activities or otherwise engage in the committee process.

    3. Faculty advisors are required to assist the SIMUN staff in enforcing, Dress Code, and the SIMUN terms and conditions with regards to their school’s delegates.

  5. SIMUN will not tolerate any instances of harassment or discrimination, including but not limited to those based on race, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, religion, age, or disability. Further, SIMUN will not tolerate any instances of inappropriate behavior or unwelcome advances of a sexual nature. If any delegate, staff, or advisor believes they have encountered harassment or discrimination, which results in a hostile working environment or disparate treatment, they are encouraged to bring it to the attention of the Secretary-General or another member of the Secretariat. The Secretary-General and Director-General will then evaluate the report and involve the appropriate personnel which may include faculty advisors. Based on their findings of the investigation, SIMUN may:

    1. Take no action;

    2. Issue a verbal reprimand;

    3. Expel the offending individual from SIMUN without refund;

    4. Bar the delegation of the offending individual from future participation at SIMUN; and/or,

    5. Take other actions as deemed necessary and appropriate.

COUNTRY ASSIGNMENTS

  1. All delegations are responsible for paying for and filling all slots assigned through our country assignment process.

  2. All delegations registered by our priority deadline will be given preference for country assignments. Country assignments will be issued on a rolling basis, dependent on receiving payment of total fees for SIMUN. Once all countries have been assigned or no seats remain, schools that have completed registration will be placed on the wait-list and receive country assignments as they become available. No delegation is guaranteed acceptance to SIMUN, even if the delegation registers before the Priority Registration Deadline.

FEES, PAYMENT & DEADLINES

  1. All fees must be paid in full by the final registration date as defined on the website. Delegations or individuals who have not paid in full by this deadline may result in the revocation of assigned seats with no refund.

  2. Fees are subject to change for every chapter conference, as defined on the website.

    1. Includes conference participation, access to all social events, access to pre-conference training, 6 meals during conference. Additionally, delegations that have opted for accommodation will be able to avail transport between the hotel and conference.

    2. A faculty advisor/observer shall be charged fees as stated on the website.

      1. Includes access to all social events, access to speaker sessions, 6 meals during conference, transport between hotel and conference for advisors opting for accommodation.

  3. All international delegations attending SIMUN are subject to pay the same fees through the SIMUN website.

  4. Any payments to SIMUN are accepted only through the website, and SIMUN reserves the right to disregard any form of document(s) stating otherwise.

  5. Our refund policy is as follows:

    1. There is no refund of fees of any kind. The SIMUN organization does not condone any mistakes made during registration and will not consider otherwise.

EXCEPTIONS & VIOLATIONS

  1. The Secretary-General is the only staff member who is allowed to grant exceptions or extensions to conference policies and deadlines. Neither SIMUN nor any other secretariat members are liable for erroneous statements made by other members of SIMUN staff regarding conference policies listed—and not listed—herein.

  2. Violation of the policies listed in these terms and conditions may result in the revocation of assigned seats with no refund. Serious violation of these policies or those listed in the conference handbook regarding conduct may result in expulsion from the conference with no refund and potential prevention of registration for all future SIMUN conferences.

FORCE MAJEURE

SIMUN shall not be deemed in default of this Agreement, nor shall it hold the other Party responsible for, any cessation, interruption or delay in the performance of its obligations (excluding payment obligations) due to earthquake, flood, fire, storm, natural disaster, act of God, war, terrorism, armed conflict, labor strike, lockout, boycott, or other similar events beyond the reasonable control of the Party, provided that the Party relying upon this provision:

  1. gives prompt written notice thereof, and

  2. takes all steps reasonably necessary to mitigate the effects of the force majeure event.

If a force majeure event extends for a period in excess of 30 days in the aggregate, either Party may immediately terminate this Agreement upon written notice.

ACCEPTANCE

If a minor is registering for South Indian Model United Nations using this website, the minor's parents/guardians are deemed to have agreed and accepted all the terms on behalf of the minor.

GOVERNING LAW & JURISDICTION

These terms and conditions are governed by and shall be construed by the secretariat and any dispute shall be exclusively subject to the decision of the management of the institution hosting the event.

LEGAL DISCLAIMER

In no event shall SIMUN be liable for any special, indirect, or consequential damages or any damages whatsoever resulting from loss of use, data, or profits, whether in an action of contract, negligence, or other action, arising out of or in connection with the use or performance of this information.


If any provision or part of a of provision this document shall be, or be found by any individual or authority to be, invalid or unenforceable, such invalidity or unenforceability shall not affect the other provisions or parts of such provisions of this document, all of which shall remain in full force and effect.
